헨델 아리랑 (Händel Arirang)

 

“헨델 아리랑”은 대한민국을 대표하는 민요 아리랑과 헨델의 오페라 리날도의 아리아 ‘Lascia ch’io pianga’의 선율이 어우러진 곡입니다.
두 곡 모두 이루지 못한 사랑에 대한 그리움을 노래하며, 아리랑의 전통적 아름다움에 헨델의 클래식한 서정성을 더해, 현대적이면서도 감성적인 울림을 전합니다.
이번 작업에는 재즈 보컬리스트 정은주 님이 편곡과 보컬을 맡아주시고, 작곡가 김기범 님이 피아노 편곡과 연주를 맡아주셨습니다.

 

아리랑은 수백 년 동안 한국인의 한과 사랑을 담아온 민요로, 이룰 수 없는 사랑에 대한 깊은 정서를 품고 있습니다.
헨델의 ‘Lascia ch’io pianga’ 역시 자유와 사랑을 갈망하는 슬픈 염원을 담고 있어, 서로 다른 시간과 공간에서 탄생했음에도 닮은 감정선을 지니고 있습니다.
두 곡은 절제된 슬픔과 체념을 섬세하게 표현하며, 단순한 선율과 가사 속에 시대를 초월하는 울림을 간직하고 있습니다.

Händel Arirang

 

“Händel Arirang” is a fusion of Korea’s iconic folk song Arirang and the aria Lascia ch’io pianga from Händel’s opera Rinaldo.
Both songs convey the longing for unattainable love, blending the timeless beauty of Arirang with the classical elegance of Händel’s music to create a timeless yet contemporary emotional resonance.
Jazz vocalist Jeong Eun-ju arranged and performed the piece, while composer Kim Ki-beom was responsible for the piano arrangement and performance.

 

Arirang is a Korean folk song that has carried deep emotions of yearning and sorrow through centuries, often telling stories of love that could not be fulfilled.
Similarly, Händel’s aria expresses a poignant yearning for freedom and love.
Though born from different times and cultures, these two pieces share a restrained yet profound expression of sorrow, preserving an emotional resonance that transcends eras.
